CELEBRATION OF FAMILY: LETTERS OF ANDREW MURRAY TO HIS CHILDREN
“To die of self, is not always this great sudden thing … rather, one has to learn to walk … in humility, meekness, patience and resignation to God.” Andrew to Kitty
To commemorate the 192nd birthday of Dr Andrew Murray (May 9th 2020), we developed the short series Celebration of Family: Letters of Andrew Murray to his children.
EPISODE 5 KITTY
Catherine Margaret (Kitty) Murray, Andrew and Emma’s third daughter, devoted her life to education.
Appointed as the principal of the Bethlehem Huguenot Seminary at a relatively young age, Kitty has to learn how to deal with complicated relationships and power-play. Writing to her father, she openly discloses her struggles and need for guidance.
Andrew responds as mentor and spiritual father: he validates her dilemma and shares practical guidelines on humility, relationships and education. And, shining through, is his recognition of Kitty as a fellow-educator and ‘moulder of character’ of those in her care.
“The Lord bless you with the souls you are moulding for time and for eternity, for Africa and for heaven. Your affectionate father, Andrew Murray”
