Celebration: Family Prayer

By Julie 12, 2020No Comments

“In our time of trial, our first aim ought to be to consider, not the trial or disappointment, not the pain or inconvenience it causes us, not the cause of it, or how we can be delivered from it, but this Divine assurance, this is something my Father has sent to me to make me humbler, holier, happier.”

Andrew Murray

To commemorate the 192nd birthday of Dr Andrew Murray (May 9th 2020), we developed the short series Celebration of Family: Letters of Andrew Murray to his children.

Final Episode

In 1906 Andrew Murray wrote: “Five of my children all in God’s school of trial!”

Loss of health, loss of work, loss of marital relationship; a child in serious illness; depression – his children’s letters told it all. One can almost hear him taking a few very deep breaths, before he continues: “I felt there was just one thing we could do, to ask God to be to each of them just what they needed, and to work out in them His blessed, loving purpose … I felt that I might write a letter which would be a message to each of you in your special need.”

We leave you with the gift of his words to his children, interwoven with some of his most treasured hymns.
